This item is on the agenda for the next council meeting Monday 27th. What has the discussion on this been? If anyone knows could they summarize community sentiment on this. What does the city get back from Northwestern for this? Maybe Northwestwern would clean up the parking lot on Central Street. It's an eyesore.

Evanston lost 569 registered voters from 2005 to 2009.
That's not a lot but the story is in the details. Here below is a list of gains/losses by ward sorted by size.

Is there a political machine that controls Evanston Elections? Some have proclaimed that every winning candidate had the backing of Jan Schakowsky and Julie Hamos. Similar lists of elected or former elected officials appeared on multiple candidate support lists and brochures. Many winners did have such support.
But, maybe there was also a message that can be found in the campaign issues…. and the positions of the candidates ...that would explain the outcome.

In addition to the Endorsement by the Evanston Review, which is read by a majority of residents in the 6th Ward, and the only "Highly Recommended" ranking by the Board of CSNA, Sloane on friday picked up the endorsement of the Jessica News, the Kingsley Elementary School Room 205 newspaper written by Jessica Sloane. "I am proud that this highly regarded paper is supporting my candidacy" Sloane stated. Sloane did question why the other candidates were not interviewed prior to the endorsement and the editor indicated that she did not live with them.

We endorse Jane Grover, former chairwoman of the Evanston Mental Health Board, for 7th Ward alderman.
Grover's experience with the board and other local groups gives her extensive institutional knowledge, which the city sorely needs in an election that will bring us a new mayor and at least four brand-new aldermen. Her ideas to deal with Evanston's budget crisis are practical, as is her emphasis on changing the discourse between Evanston and Northwestern.

I have been fortunate to serve as the 6th Ward Alderman myself, as well as two terms as Mayor of Evanston, so I know what it takes to handle this job. That’s why I believe Mark is the best-qualified candidate.

I got to know Mark during his many years as Board Chair of BEHIV. I have always been impressed by his problem-solving abilities and his tireless efforts to find common ground and build consensus. Mark will provide extraordinary leadership for Evanston’s 6th Ward. I hope you will vote “Tendam for Alderman” on April 7.

Endorsement: Dinges for mayor

We endorse Barnaby Dinges for mayor of Evanston.
In the midst of a recession and a budget crisis, Evanston is lucky to have two fantastic candidates for its top position: Dinges and Ald. Elizabeth Tisdahl (7th). We believe that either one would do a good job and improve the city.
But Dinges's innovative mind, communications background and activist mentality makes him the best candidate for mayor.
