Changes in tomorrow's parent group meeting

Time and leader change highlighted in bold and/or red:

Every third Tuesday, starting September 21st from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., the EPD will be hosting a parent support group for parents/guardians/caregivers raising challenging teens. The sessions will be led by Gina Secemsky, School Social Worker at Oakton Elementary School and will take place at 1123 Emerson, Suite 200 (SASI Conference room). Dinner will be provided.

Please pass along the information to any interested parents.

6th Ward meeting, Wed., Sept. 22, 7PM

A 6th Ward meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 7:00PM at the Three Crowns Park. Three Crowns is located at 2323 McDaniel, Evanston. The meeting will take place in the Multi-purpose Room on the first floor, north side of the building. There will be someone at the McDaniel entrance to direct you.
 

Library Board to hold funding forums

The public is encouraged to attend the City of Evanston's public library funding forums. The Library Board will hold two forums to discuss the history of the Evanston Public Library, an overview of the Task Force on Sustainable Funding's report and an overview of the Library Fund. There will be a period for questions and answers.

The first forum will be held Saturday, August 28 from 10 AM to noon in the Community Meeting Room at the Main Library, 1703 Orrington Avenue, Evanston.

6th Ward: Bird tests positive for West Nile virus

Evonda Thomas, Evanston Public Health Director, announced today the first bird testing positive for West Nile virus in Evanston this year.
 
“As temperatures start to warm up, we’re going to start seeing more mosquito activity and an increased risk for West Nile virus,” said Ms. Thomas. “Although most cases of West Nile virus are mild, the virus can still cause serious, life-altering and even fatal disease. That is why it is so important to protect yourself against mosquito bites by wearing insect repellent and getting rid of any standing water around your home.”

Mosquito abatement rescheduled for Aug. 11

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District will be conducting targeted adult mosquito control operations in portions of Evanston on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, between the hours of 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM, weather permitting.
This area is bounded by:  Central St., Crawford Ave. Dempster Ave. and Lake Michigan.

Adult mosquito control: 6th Ward, Tue., Aug. 3

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District will be conducting targeted

and Wilmette on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, between the hours of 8:00 PM and
2:00 AM, weather permitting.
This area is bounded by:  Lake Ave., Hibbard Rd., Old Orchard Rd./Central
Street, and Lake Michigan.

West Nile virus update

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) reported a pool of mosquitoes from Evanston has tested positive for West Nile Virus. This is the first positive pool identified in Evanston in 2010. So far this year in Illinois there have been 28 positive pools statewide with no human cases reported. The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District has not scheduled any spraying at this time.
Residents should follow these steps to keep safe:
  • Eliminate mosquitoes that cause West Nile Virus from your property;

Recent burglaries in 6th Ward

The Evanston Police have reported that two home burglaries occurred on March 20, roughly between 6 and 10 PM. The homes are located not far from each other in the 2600 block of Payne and 2300 block of Ridgeway. Burglar(s) gained entry to one residence by removing a window screen.
