The City faces a budget shortfall and is asking for citizen input to set priorities.

The City of Evanston is asking community members to provide their input on City programs and services for the 2019 fiscal year by completing a Priority-based Budget survey. The survey, which asks community members to rank 46 programs and services, is available online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/EvanstonBudget. Printed copies will be available at Evanston Public Library locations and community centers on Friday, May 11. The survey deadline is Thursday, June 7, 2018.

The City Council voted last month to reject the lease with the Evanston Lakehouse and Gardens non profit group.Since then, a proposal has been brought forward to demolish the mansion. A vote on that will be taken by Council on June 18.

Residents on all sides of the issue have been vocal.

CSNA has been firm in its support for the Lakehouse proposal and opposed to demolition of this landmark.

For at least the last 25 years, the designated landing site for emergency medical helicopters has been the northeast portion of the City of Evanston Water Treatment Facility located at 555 Lincoln Street. Typically, medical transport helicopters from private ambulance companies or hospitals landed there about four times per year in total to conduct specialized medical transports to/from both St. Francis and Evanston Hospitals.

Due to ongoing and planned construction at the Water Treatment Facility, that site has been closed and, in collaboration with Northwestern University and Superior Ambulance Company, the City has established, through an MOU, an alternate landing site at Ryan Field. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, this temporary site will be used until February 2020. At that time the need and location for a permanent landing site will be re-evaluated.

Weather permitting, a test run of this new landing site will occur on Tuesday, June 12th at 9:00 a.m. At that time, a medical transport helicopter from Superior Ambulance will perform a practice landing at Ryan Field, with representatives from Northwestern University and the Evanston Fire Department on hand to evaluate any operational and safety considerations. If all goes well at the test run, Superior Ambulance would be allowed to use the new site going forward until 2020. Please be advised that if Ryan Field is being used for any particular large-scale activity (e.g., commencement, football games, etc.) the site would not be available for landings, as determined by NU.

Canal Shores Golf Course is hosting neighbors and supporters at their 5th Annual (on the course) Garage Party April 20. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Pro Shop/Patio at 1030 Central Street. Proceeds from the event help Canal Shores recreational efforts, ecological work, course improvements, and youth development.

Featured is a wine tasking, local beers from Sketchbook and Lagunitas Chicago; curated Scotch and whiskey tastings with experts from Binnys; cigars from Iwan Ries; hitting bay competitions sponsored by the Golf Practice - the youth golf provider for summer camps and clinics; an open bar; grilled specialties,; good fun and company; and prizes.

Canal Shores Golf Course will be one of three host venues for the celebration of SPACE’s Tenth Anniversary in Evanston. Concerts will be held at Canal Shores on July 27 and 28.

SPACE will celebrate ten years of live music with Out of Space, a full summer of outdoor concerts, from June 21 – Aug. 26, at Canal Shores, on Dempster Street and Temperance Brewing.

Headlining the concert at Canal Shores on July 27 will be Grammy-award-winning singer and Chicago civil rights icon Mavis Staples who will perform with special guest Marc Broussard. Join CSNA to learn about the state of development and the role of the Central Street Plan. We will be joined by a representative of the City to help the community gain insights into the process and what is on the horizon for development in our area.

The session is set for Thursday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post 42 meeting room, 1030 Central Street.

The discussion will be moderated by David Staub, CSNA President. Issues on the agenda include:

• History and components of the Central Street Corridor Overlay District.
• Developments since the Overlay District/Plan was adopted by the City Council.
• The development approval process in Evanston, including the role of various agencies, commissions and boards, as well as City Council.
• What are variances and how do they work?
• What is the role of citizen input into the process?
• Transit Oriented Developments - what they are, and how they fit into planning on Central Street.
• The pipeline for Community Development that may impact the Central Street neighborhood.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. CSNA will hold its election of Board and officers for 2018-19 at the beginning of the meeting. All current members are eligible to vote, and may pay dues at registration.
