The City of Evanston, shortly after news outlets in South Dakota, has issued a statement saying that Library Director Mary Johns has resigned to take the head librarian job for the Siouxland Library District, formed by the merger of the Sioux Falls and an adjacent rural district. Johns served slightly over three years.
The City's anouncement does acknowledge, through City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz, the "rebirth of active community support for [library] services" in recent years.
No news is available on the Library's website as of this moment.
The City statement says that Mr. Bobkiewicz has appointed Adult Services Manager Lesley Williams to serve as "Acting Library Director beginning July 16 until an Interim Library Director is selected." Under Section 4-7 of the Illinois Local Library Act, the Library Board has the statutory power "[t]o appoint and to fix the compensation of a qualified librarian."
