On Thursday evening, October 18, 2012, at 7 PM at Haven Middle School, Evanston, a Central Street Neighbors Association public forum features candidates vying to represent north Evanston and surrounding areas in the Illinois General Assembly. The moderated forum, with specific issue questions, will offer opportunity for the community to discern differences between candidates. All Democratic and Republican candidates for the 17th and 18th Illinois House district, as well as the 9th Illinois Senate District, have been invited, and five have committed to attend. Two of the seats are open this year and all districts have been redistricted.
Invited candidates are:
• State Senator, 9th District: Glenn Farkas (R) and Daniel Biss (D)
• State Representative, 17th District (west of Green Bay): Laura Fine (D) and Kyle Frank (R)
• State Representative, 18th District (east of Green Bay): Robyn Gabel (D) and Eric Joseph Lieberman (R)
Past candidate and issue forums by CSNA have been well-attended and probing. While the national presidential race is naturally the focus of most interest this election year, critical fiscal and social issues face Illinois. The continued involvement of the community in state and local government remains important. All residents of the community are invited.
