Excavation to begin at vacant site of Evanston Theatre

Construction of Central Station Apartments, the new name for the multi-use retail/residential project at the site of the old Evanston Theatre, is ready to start and is scheduled to be finished by May 2013. This 1700 block of Central Street will be home to a four-story building, including 80 luxury rental apartments and 10,500 square feet of retail space.

The perimeter fencing was erected in early June and excavation and foundation work are scheduled to begin by the end of the month. This project, formerly called The Eastwood of Evanston, is a joint effort between Dodge Capital and M&R Development.

Throughout the planning process of this long-delayed project, the Central Street Neighbors Association has been engaged to help communicate residents' ideas and concerns in hopes that the end result will be development that fits with the overall atmosphere of Central Street. The 300' lot at 1700-1722 Central has been vacant since 2007.
