Tendam Ward Meeting on Libraries Tues. Oct. 19

Ald. Mark Tendam (6th) will hold a meeting to discuss the library situation, and the City's proposed closure of the neighborhood branches, on Tuesday, October 19, from 7 to 9 pm at the North Branch Library, 2026 Central St. Tendam originally announced the meeting as being on the 18th, but has rescheduled. The alderman encourages "anyone that is interested in maintaining the Branch libraries" to attend.
 
After all the volunteer support from Evanston Public Library Friends and other citizens, the direction from the Council in June to find a way to keep the branches open, the support of the Library Board for the branches in its recent budget, and the supportive results of both the City budget workshops and the City's own online poll, citizens were shocked when the proposed City budget for 2011, released Oct. 8, instead eliminates both neighborhood branches (and obviously provides for no expansion of neighborhood services).
