I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has noticed street sweepers in the 7th Ward (usually only sighted before N.U. games), actual potholes that have been patched on Lincoln Ave. and Ridge Ave., a once a year mailing I believe from the department of Streets and Sanitation. We know there are no coincidences in politics, therefore our City is functioning at it's highest level until the next election in 2013.
To add to the awesome onslaught of our government's coordinated pre-election blitz of services and reminders, I also received the COE quarterly 16 page mailer, " Highlights".
Of course, there was no mention of "Lowlights" such as the current Council's failure to make hard budget cuts in the FY 2009-10 Budget, apologize for allowing the Pension liabilties to grow to 145 million plus by ignoring them at 99 million and smaller amounts the last 4 years (see Blue Ribbon Pension Report at COE website) and allowing Klutznick/Anderson to come back for another bite of the juicy, dysfunctional COE developer apple (35 stories plus worth of "privatizing profit and socializing risk") without getting any real long term benefits for the COE. Etc.,etc.,etc.
The cover-up, denial , spin, media cooperation, whitewash, convenient amnesia, inconvenient amnesia, money, more money, false advertising, endorsements that seem to be written from the endorsed's own campaign literature, no real issues being discussed, use of the 5th amendment in declining to answer an honest, relevant question, and an attempt to deny fellow candidates free speech responses (see Jane Grover- 7th Ward LWVE- "highly recommended" viewing) in this election season is breathtaking. Who knew that there was that much lipstick in the world to use to cover up Evanston's current and sadly, future realities!
