Tendam for Alderman kicks off on Jan. 15

Dear Sixth Ward Residents and All of Evanston,

I am running for Sixth Ward Alderman and I am asking for your support. I am excited about the upcoming campaign and the chance that we all have to reshape our City Council on April 7, 2009.

I am currently a member of the Board of Directors of the McGaw YMCA and the Democratic Party of Evanston. I also serve on the Steering Committee of Leadership Evanston. I am a Senior Studies Consultant at ETHS and since 2006 I have served as a member of the City’s Sign Review and Appeals Board. In addition, I have attended a number of conferences and seminars to learn more about the issues confronting our city. Most recently, I attended conferences in Newark and Louisville on affordable housing and diversity.

I hope that you will join my campaign team and me for a Kick Off Party on January 15, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, 3001 Central Street. The Evanston RoundTable and Evanston Review as well as Evanston Now and Central Street Neighbors Association web sites will have details about the kick off.

I look forward to seeing you on the 15th and to answering any questions you might have regarding my candidacy and my views on the issues that the next Council will face. Best wishes to all of you for a safe, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Mark Tendam
Candidate for Alderman, Sixth Ward Evanston

Please tell us about something beyond your qualifications?

Mark - You have not said anything about how you might deal with the issues the city will have to deal with next year. The lack of funds, a tax increase of 13% - huge pension debts and lack of capital funds.

Are you thinking of replacing Ed Moran as the new affordable housing person on the council? ( since you attend conferences on affordble housing ) The whole program has been nothing but a huge give away of our tax dollars - the most recent example is the council decided to give 5 affordable housing groups $16,000 each for administrative costs.

Watching these affordable housing groups come back to the council over and over asking for more money to pay for their project overruns - is not very appealing. I hope you will not support such nonsense if you are elected.

The first budget review meeting will be Jan 10th please attend -
