Evanston Green Living Festival - Fun, Education, and Food on September 24

 
 
The Evanston Green Living Festival is an annual event presented by the Evanston Environmental Association (EEA) and the City of Evanston, with financial and in-kind assistance from a stellar group of Sponsors.  The festival is held to present green products, services and ideas that will help attendees lower their carbon footprint.
 
The 2011 festival will be held on Saturday, September 24 from 9am to 3pm at the Evanston Ecology Center at 2024 McCormick Blvd, Evanston, IL 60201.  This year's theme is "Alternative Energy - You've Got the Power!"
  
Come to this year's fifth annual Evanston Green Living Festival and experience a fun and educational event that will include the following attractions:
  • The Green Market featuring over 80 Green exhibitors from Evanston and nearby communities
  • Alternative Energy Displays - a residential wind turbine, solar panels, Northwestern University's Tiny House project, the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency program, and other energy demonstrations
  • Alternative Transportation - A Chevrolet Volt (the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year), A PACE RideShare Van and Bus Bike Rack, an all-electric E-Car, Electric & Pedal bikes, I-Go Car Sharing, and the NU Solar Car Team's fifth-generation solar car
  • Green Demonstrations - Home Insulation, Rain Barrels, Composting, and more...
  • The CUB Energy Saver program - sign up to create a personal energy plan and win points redeemable at national and local retailers
  • An environmental panel presentation of "The Energy Game - Getting to the Promised Land of Renewable Energy" by local alternative energy experts
  • A Green Silent Auction of items provided by green vendors and organizations
  • Plenty of fun activities to keep the kids entertained including a "Critter" meet-and-greet, stories by Mr. Rick, fun learning from Ricky Recycle, a ride on the Energy Bike to discover what it takes to power both incandescent and CFL bulbs, and numerous other engaging things to do
  • Free bicycle rickshaw rides for attendees from 10am to 2pm 
  • Delicious Food and Refreshments offered by the Hummingbird Kitchen
  • Secure Bike Parking - we encourage festival attendees to ride their bikes to the festival and secure them in our protected area

I've attended the last several years and always find great conversations and something new. Last year we bought a couple of rain barrels and have saved close to 1000 gallons of water this year. Well worth a stop by.
