New plans for old Evanston Theaters site

On Tuesday, June 7, from 7-9 pm, at the Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd., the Central Street Neighbors Association will host, with Ald. Jane Grover (7th), a discussion with Bob Horne, a principal of the developer of the former Evanston Theatres site at 1700-1722 Central St. (seen at right as it existed in January, 2007, and below as photographed in 2009). The large lot has been vacant since the demolition of the theaters four years ago to make way for the planned but ill-fated "Eastwood" condominium project. Mr. Horne will preview plans for a revised project and answer questions.

The community and the City of Evanston have a stake in seeing the site developed and returned to the tax rolls. Over 75 people attended a March 31 forum we sponsored that covered, among other topics, possible ground-floor uses for this site that might thrive in the neighborhood.

Proactive discussion between developers and neighbors, such as this meeting, is a tool this organization has encouraged. We greatly welcome this conversation and are anticipating some creative, positive, and forward-looking ideas from Mr. Horne. Doors open (with refreshments) at 6:30.

Forums:

After the presentation and the forum, several CSNA members put together a nice report. The report is posted here (at http://centralstreetneighbors.com/content/report-forum-eastwood-1700-172....)
