After the lengthy Central Street Plan process, a few of the Neighbors became interested in the development of the Downtown Plan, which is purported to be an update to the 1989 plan. The latest version of the Downtown Plan, dated Nov.10, 2008, was presented to the Planning & Development (P&D) Committee on the tenth. Future meetings on the subject will be held on Nov. 24 and Dec. 4, 2008 with the Dec. 4 meeting a special session that will hear public comments. It is not clear whether the Nov. 24 meeting will take public comments, but it surely will include P & D discussion.

Reports that I have "declared candidacy," like those of Mark Twain's death, were premature. I have not been, and have no plans to be, a candidate for mayor of Evanston in 2009.
Recently several posts have discussed the future of Evanston, what the city needs and doesn't need. Does our city government itself know where it is going? Here is the city's mission statement, which you can find on the city's web page under "strategic plan':
"The City of Evanston is committed to promoting the highest quality of life for all residents by providing fiscally sound, responsive municipal services and delivering those services equitably, professionally with the highest degree of integrity."
