Bike Ridge Blvd. Car-Free Sun., Oct. 3

Bicyclists of all ages can follow up the Green Living Festival (see story below) by enjoying the annual Bike the Ridge event this Sunday, Oct. 3 in Evanston. Bicycles are normally banned on Ridge Boulevard, one of the oldest roads in the north suburbs, due to the high volume and narrow width, but it will instead be closed to motor vehicle traffic from 9 AM until noon between Howard and Church, allowing bikes to claim the entire road for a two-mile stretch. Besides the treat of being able to bike in freedom along the recently-resurfaced Boulevard, lined with majestic trees and historic homes, the event will offer music from the School of Rock band at  Ridgeville Park, bike registration courtesy of our police department, repair and decorating stations, a baked goods sale by the Oakton PTA, and numerous snacks, drinks, and coupon giveaways. Bring the kids!
