New Trees for Central Street

Our Superintendent of Parks and Forestry, Paul D'Agostino, reports the following about the ash trees that were recently removed from the Central Street parkway in the business district:

We have scheduled the grinding of the 5 stumps on the south side of Central between Green Bay and Hartrey for this coming Thursday (when the north branch is already closed) [this week]. With all the storefronts involved, this is a complicated process. We will be hooding the meters very early Thursday morning, and then the crew will wait until 9:00 am to begin the work in order to avoid the pedestrian traffic during rush hour. The windows in front of the stores will be covered with plywood at each site, and we will grind out the stumps, remove the grindings, and fill the openings with soil. If all goes well, the work should be completed by around noon that day. All 5 sites are scheduled to have new trees planted next month, so we need to get rid of the stumps now.

Please contact Mr. D'Agostino (pdagostino@cityofevanston.org) or me (jgrover@cityofevanston.org) with your questions.

Thank you.
