Election of Directors to the Evanston Wilmette Golf Course Association

The Evanston Wilmette Golf Course Association has announced the election of new Board members for 2016. The election was held Nov. 19 at a meeting of the Board of Directors. Members elected from Evanston are Mike O’Connor, Joe Rickard, Jay Ryan Ray Tobin and Perry Weinberg. Continuing to serve are: Chris Carey, Kevin Kane, Tom Mann, Mark McCarthy, Tim Pretzsch, Jeff Stewart and Debbie Weixl. Elected to represent Wilmette on the Board are: Karl Leinberger and John Powers. They join current members Larry Mages, Don Olson, Todd Ricketts, Dan Wikel and Rudy Van Loon.

The 19-member Board includes representatives of the community surrounding the golf course known as Canal Shores that runs through Evanston and Wilmette along the north shore channel.  The Board is responsible for the management and operations of the course. Officers of the Association are: President John Powers of Wilmette; Larry Mages, also of Wilmette, vice president; Treasurer Dan Wikel of Wilmette; and Jeffrey Stewart of Evanston, secretary.  The officers serve a two-year term and along with the chair of the Grounds Committee, Chris Carey of Evanston, constitute the executive committee.

The Board has also expanded its effort to reach out to the community and has appointed Carl Bova and Julie Fleetwood as associate directors. They join Frank Candioto, David Fenn, Steve Neumann and Brian Wolf.  The Board also has a large number of additional volunteers who serve as consultants who bring skills in marketing, financial services and business operations, golf management, and with experience in youth programming. Robert Dorneker and Kevin Wallin of the City of Evanston Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department are working closely with the Association.

The Board also has recognized as emeritus members Jerry Murphy and David Iskowich who are stepping down from the board after completing their terms of service. They join Dobie Burton, Bill Debs, Dick Fischl, Paul Giddings, Pat Hughes, Chuck Logan, John LoSasso, Mike Matchen, Jack Page, Jack Richards, Nancy Ross and Greg Wilson.

The Association is also pleased to announce that it has hired a full time Business Manager, Dan Bulf, who brings broad experience in working with non profits and other organizations in the area. He will work closely on overseeing operations, outreach, community relations and meeting and event planning. He will be providing key staff support to all events and tournaments at the course. He will report to Tom Tully who serves as course superintendent. Tom Hotchkiss, long term staff member will assume more responsibility for leagues and oversight of the Pro Shop in the next year.
