1917 Plan of Evanston

It has been 98 years ... but some things do not change.  Including the vision many in Evanston have for our Lake Front and Park resources. 

The 1917 Plan of Evanston called for an uninterrupted lakefront park with public access beaches from South Boulevard to Evanston's northern boundary.  (Click on the plan cover to download and read the .pdf)

The plan noted that Evanston has only about 20% of the recommended parkland.  It called for:

  • A new park district
  • A 3 mil levy
  • The ability to bond
