Kids Crafts, Pow Wow Program at Mitchell Museum Sat. 10/25

The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, 3001 Central St., Evanston, is hosting its fall Community Day Event today, Saturday, Oct. 25th. Basic admission to the museum is free today, and the event will feature a dream catcher crafts program for kids from 11 to noon, with light refreshments from noon-1 PM. At 2:30, a special narrative and dance program will be offered ($10 members/$12 non-members), entitled "50 Years of Pow Wow," explaining how modern urban pow-wows differ from Tribal Pow Wows, and how they have changed in the last century. Omaha/Odawa tribe member Cyndee Fox-Starr and Louis Delgado of the Oneidas will narrate and discuss video clips from Chicago's American Indian Center pow wows from the 1950s, 1970s, and last year's 60th anniversary. Popular Pow Wow regalia will also be on display and explained.
