Join Central Street Neighbors and Celebrate July 4!

Central Street Neighbors Association will be marching in the 4th of July Parade in Evanston.  We welcome all residents of our community to march with us, or cheer us on along the parade route!  This year our float will feature the music of South Boulevard Band.

The parade, now in its 91st year, is a key part of the City’s celebration of independence.  The parade kicks off on Thurs., July 4 at 2 p.m. and winds its way east along Central Street from Central Park Avenue to Ashland Avenue. Some 140 entrants are expected to participate this year.

This year the theme for the parade is “Evanston” 150 Years Young,” to commemorate the founding of Evanston in 1863. Learn more about Evanston 150 at http://evanston150.org/.

The July 4 celebration originally began in 1921 under the sponsorship of the North End Mother's Club. In 1980, the name was changed to the Evanston 4th of July Association, as its mission expanded to include the entire city.

The parade is a highlight of a day full of activities for both young and old.  The Association not only sponsors the parade, but also hosts the City’s fireworks display (9:15 p.m. at Clark Street Beach) and band concert (simulcast on 90.5 FM).  The Association oversees activities for kids (at a number of parks and schools around the city beginning at 9 a.m.), a tennis tournament (8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ackerman Park), and a new-this-year kids’ fun run (also at Ackerman Park beginning at 12:45 p.m.).

CSNA is proud to be a long-time supporter and partcipant in the parade and is the 2010 recipient of the 4th of July Association’s Pelton Plaque for "outstanding neighborhood group."

Join us for a memorable, safe and exciting day!
