School funding and reform forum tonight

The Joint Legislative Task Force of the 65/202 PTA Council will host a forum on school funding, education reform and related topics tonight, July 12, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the District 65 HQ (1500 McDaniel Ave., 2 blocks south of Church).

The task force expects the three state legislators who currently represent Evanston to appear and present a report: Sen. Jeffrey Schoenberg (D-9th), Rep. Robyn Gabel (D-18th), and Rep. Daniel Biss (D-17th). However, the event is also designed to be a vehicle for communicating to the legislators, by allowing for citizen comment, according to task force chair Robert Heuer, who said that it will be a way for the "school community to provide a more effective voice in the [next] legislative session."

A statement by the Task Force and reportedly approved by both the District 65 and District 202 School Boards in 2010 reportedly advocates for school-funding reform and raising expectations  of students and schools. However, as of this date it was difficult to locate a copy of the statement (or news of tonight's meeting) on the Joint Council's web site. If anyone can locate a link I'd be happy to add it.
